Welcome
Writing Expectations
To start our travels out right, I want to let you know what to expect in writing and how we will start each day out. This year we will write a personal experience essay, persuasive essay, descriptive essay, compare and contrast essay, research report, poetry, journaling and so much more. Oh and did I mention you are WANTED for your uniqueness? (You will find out more about this in a few days.)
Every day when you come into class there will be a “Set” on the board. Your job is to come into class, sit down with your materials and get to work on the set.

Reading Expectations
Have you ever read a story so vivid that you felt like you traveled to a whole different place? It is certain that reading takes you places. Not only does it allow you to escape to another place in your mind, but it also allows you to go places with the skills you build!
Our goal in language arts is to let our reading take us around the world! Don’t just sit there- let’s get going! In class we will be reading a variety of short stories, poetry, and novels. However, to become truly seasoned travelers, you will read at least 25 pieces of writing independently by Friday, May 27th.
Where you go is up to you. Maybe you’ll travel to Hogwarts to study with Harry Potter, or visit the Land of Oz.
Regardless of your destination, there are places you can’t miss! Try to visit a variety of genres like, non-fiction, biography, mystery, historical fiction, science fiction, or fantasy.
